Yesterday I saw a very interesting and fun film called “the dead poets’ society”. I watched it because it was recommended to me by a friend and because I thought that it would be funny because Robin Williams was the main character. I started to watch it in English, but 40 minutes later I changed the audio tracks and I saw it in Spanish.
This film was especially difficult for me to understand because the most part of the dialogue was poetry and I couldn’t understand the most part of it, well… I couldn’t understand hardly anything. After I realized that I didn’t understand the dialogue, I started to watch scenes of the film in English, trying to understand what the actors were saying, and then I went back on the audio tracks and I saw the same scenes that I had seen in English audio but I saw it in Spanish this time so I could compare the real dialogue with the dialogue that I had understood. I realized that I couldn’t translate a poem because it was very difficult to keep the rhyme and the style of the original poem, but the film translator was able to translate the poems of the original dialogue really really good.
I would like learning to translate poetry, it seems very interesting and I think that is a difficult and a very admirable task.
